Bariatric Surgery
How Bariatric Surgery Works
Once you’ve decided that nothing is helping you lose the weight that you desperately need to lose to maintain your health, bariatric surgery may be an option. It is a life changing operation that can free you from being obese and suffering from the myriad of health conditions that accompany obesity. However, the surgery is only one aspect of weight loss, it is a tool only. You must learn to eat properly or the weight won’t stay off for long. It is just like dieting, without lifestyle changes, bariatric surgery is a waste.
Doctors determine a person’s eligibility for bariatric surgery based on a mental evaluation as well as physical evaluation. Without a real commitment to adopting a new way of eating, there is no sense in getting surgery which enables a person to feel full quickly. If eating is an emotional issue, this must be worked out prior to surgery. Bariatric surgery works by physically limited the amount of food a person can eat until they fee full. If a person eats to feel better or to avoid an issue, there is no surgery to fix this problem.
Don’t waste your time or money on bariatric surgery if you have no commitment to making life changing alterations in your eating habits. Most surgeons can spot a person right away who believes the surgery can cure all their problems. It can’t. It just limits the amount of food you can eat or digest.
