Half of the babies will live to 100 years

More than half of babies were born in the UK and other rich countries will live 100 years, researchers say.

The study, published in the journal The Lancet, also says that additional years pass with less disability. Data from more than 30 developed countries shows that since 1950 the probability of surviving 80 years of age has doubled for both sexes.

One expert said that healthy behaviors for all ages are the key to enjoying a long life.

Professor Kaare Christensen of the Danish Research Centre on Aging at the University of Southern Denmark, who led the study, said life expectancy has been increasing since 1840 and there were no signs that this trend will go down.
